On 9th October 2018 Hilary Pinnock, member of the IPCRG Research sub-committee and Chair of our Education Committee presented the primary care research perspective to Members of the European Parliament at a Policy meeting of the European Parliament Interest Group on Allergy and Asthma.
“How to overcome the barriers to research in chronic NCDs in Europe? The case of allergy and asthma”
Co-hosted by MEP Nessa Childers (S&D, Ireland), MEP Anna Záborská (EPP, Slovakia) and MEP David Borrelli (NI, Italy) and organised by our associate members, European Federation of Allergy and Airways Diseases and Allergy Patients Associations (EFA) and the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI).
She spoke on Addressing the societal importance of tackling universal access to high quality respiratory care, as a way to meet the UN Sustainable Development Goals; described what challenges we face in terms of variation in care and access, multimorbidity and inequity including deprivation; explained why primary care is an essential part of the solution and what makes primary care different; shared our work on the research gaps, eg support on diagnosis; supported self management and suggested some priorities, with a focus on implementation.
