Newsletter 4th December, 2015
Dear IPCRG colleague
We are 6 months away from our 8th World Conference in Amsterdam, 25-28 May 2016.
A few key Programme Highlights
The conference theme is Teamwork and our opening address is being given by Prof Trisha Greenhalgh, a professor of Primary Health Care, London and a practising GP. She has a special interest in the philosophical aspects of evidence based medicine, in particular the tension between the rationale of scientific evidence and the messy practicalities of real world medicine. She will be speaking on “THE VALUE OF INTERDISCIPLINARY APPROACHES FOR PATIENT BENEFIT”.
Our first plenary on Thursday demonstrates the importance of health care professionals working together to reduce asthma burden. The importance of the patient as a partner in health care is central to the theme of the conference. A patient, GP and a nurse feature during this multidisciplinary session.
Other sessions focus on how we work together to reach smokers, including trying to answer difficult questions concerning mental health, the role of e-cigarettes, pregnancy and the complexities of shisha smokers. Everyone is aware smoking is a key factor in developing COPD and we have a strong focus on earlier diagnosis of COPD and the potential difference it makes.
Throughout the conference, we will be focussing on all respiratory diseases; asthma, COPD, infections, allergy, lung cancer over the range of high through middle to low income countries. Whatever your area of interest there is something for you.
