Treatment: Immunotherapy - for which patients in primary care is it appropriate and cost effective?
Immunotherapy is recommended for patients by ARIA - Guidelines and indications for specific immunotherapy with inhalant allergens have been published over the past years by WHO, the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI), the International Consensus Report on Asthma, Global Strategy for Asthma Management and Prevention, the International Consensus Report on Rhinitis, the British Society for Allergy and Clinical Immunology, the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI) and the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI).2 These reports provide guidelines for a better understanding of the use of allergen specific immunotherapy. However, a greater understanding is required of how useful and safe this would actually be in primary care and what the variation in practice around the world is.
